“Life isn’t about finding yourself,
Life is about creating yourself”
At iTutor, we believe in learning that is tailored to each child’s unique needs and capabilites.
Our student teacher ratio is one teacher to a maximum of 15 learners. Grade 000-R includes both a teacher and assistant in a class of 15, thus ascertaining that every child gets the full and necessary attention that he/she requires. We believe in identifying and nurturing the individual potential of each child and helping them be the first and only one of their unique kind, rather than a “factory-like approach where each child is considered the same.
In our community we encourage learners to compete with self, rather than other and build their future on the solid foundation of their own thoughts, creativity, talent and communication.
We teach in both formal and informal ways, so that students can adapt to a free-learning environment. This is to initiate the self discovery, learning through inquiry, innate direction, and learning in a content/holistic way.
We at iTutor believe that a learning system that is book based and monotonous does not encourage a positive outlook towards education. We have therefore embarked on a curriculum that fulfills all requirements. However, with smaller numbers we are able to create “creative breaks” in the day whereby a learners learn through practical approaches/means and still achieving the desired outcomes. All of this is achieved during the normal school hours of the day.
Understanding how crucial the right kind of education is, most especially in the formation years, we have a team of dedicated curriculum developers who have your child’s best interests at heart. We aspire to choose a curriculum that is not only excellent, but also well-organized, adaptable and suitable for every kind of learner.
At iTutor college, we have identified the need as well as the general lack of basic “world awareness knowledge”. As from 2018 we will therefore introduce our very own curriculum encompassing “General Knowledge”.
This will be imparted in all grades starting from Grade 1 and the intensity of the content will build with Grade progression. This will be a non-exam subject and will include fun methods of learning including field trips, excursions and games and quizzes.
We, at iTutor create a community of teachers, parents, friends and society around students for instilling core values; developing life skills and ensuring complete wellness (body, mind and soul) of the student.
At Itutor all work is administered, understood and completed in the classroom. Home time is regarded as “free time”, where a learner is allowed to apply what he/she has been taught for the day.
Parents may assist where specific learners require the added revision. All necessary content will be covered at school, and there will be a facility of an added 45 min homework assistance per day, as part of the service provided by the school, for learners who work at a somewhat “slower” pace.
iTutor is a homework free zone! Homework is a conceptualization at school, usually seen by both learners and some parents as a punishment and a dread!
We believe that with smaller numbers in the class, effective discipline and responsible behaviour from learners, teachers can minimize the amount of homework that is sent home. We believe that work must be both understood and applied in the classroom. When a child goes home, he/she must be willing and excited to share what he/she has learned for the day. Most children will be thrilled to recap work done at school, if taught in innovative and exciting ways. Reading should not be seen as a chore, or as homework. In fact reading should be a necessary must in the daily life of every individual, be it our “winding down time”, or a necessary part of our daily routine…reading should be seen as part of a likeable daily practice.
In the world at present, in most cases both parents work and homework is seen as a mundane task that must just “be done”…in almost 90% of the time there is absolutely no learning taking place when the mindset behind the task is already negative. We at iTutor will give 45 min per day (Mon-Thur) towards an internal supervision of homework to be done at school, especially for slower learners.
Learners then work faster and are able to use this extra time constructively to read, or engage in art/recreation of his/her choice.
There is a larger than perceived gap between being learned and being able. We at iTutor aim at bridging this gap. To do this we believe in creating scholar prodigies, learners who are “street smart” and able to apply themselves in the real world.
For this we have imbibed a practical approach, so that children know how to apply their knowledge, which in turn also helps to retain their knowledge. This kind of knowledge retention stays with a human being for a lifetime.
The world and our immediate environments are moving at a rapid pace. We at iTutor College believe in staying abreast of these changes, and most importantly to understand the transition. We do believe that there is wisdom in some age-old beliefs and methodologies, and the individual must be able to ascertain the choices that he/she would like to make to maintain some very pertinent core human values. However, transition is necessary in order to best suit the ever changing trends in the world, workplace and society at large.
Our curriculum includes developments in Mathematics, Problem solving, Science and Discovery, Robotics, Electronics and Practical Life Skills.
